The
flat(tish) pavement that forms the foundation for the Great Pyramid
It's
only when you stand near them that you get a feeling for the achievement of
the Old Kingdom architects. To sit on the lowest course of stones, and feel
the warmth in your back coming from that vast weight just has to be a humbling
and almost mystical experience. Whatever theory as to their construction you
subscribe to, whether they were actual tombs or not, their immensity is overwhelming.
