In August, 2000 - Egypt's 7th millenium - I travelled to Egypt with my friends Sue & Beverley, and Beverley's daughter Alice - you'll find them all in my friends section. The next few pages are a record of that holiday, enhanced with photographs from my previous visit in 1997.

Although we had decided to make our own arrangements, we decided to take a package tour, as the flight, coupled with 7 days at the Luxor Hilton was not significantly more than the price of the flight alone. Before travelling, I'd booked us rooms at a hotel in Cairo as we had planned to visit Cairo for a couple of days by travelling on the overnight train. The internet makes such private arrangements really easy.

We had booked no tours or excursions with the tour operator, as we preferred to do it ourselves. A very good reason for that is that the operators normally charge £30 per person for these excursions if they are pre-booked, whereas by arranging them locally with taxi drivers, 4 people can take a similar tour for the same price, or less.
