Karnak was huge, and I did not take many photographs. However, I am returning this September, so these pages will be extended later this year.

The giant scarab, near the Sacred Lake. If you walk round it three times anti-clockwise, and make a wish, the gods should grant it!

The best times to visit Karnak are before 11 am or at about sunset. The tourist buses arrive at about 11, after their tour of the Valley of the Kings, so it can get quite crowded. At sunset, the temple takes on a much more mysterious mood as the shadows lengthen. Sit by one of the huge columns, and feel the warmth of the stone against your back, and you will know that you must return.

The avenue of ram-headed sphinxes on the way to the temple entrance.

Admission was £LE 12 last year.
